The buzz surrounding the recent awards show was significant, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer featuring memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely crafting a faster-paced experience as opposed to another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
A Pillar of Modern RPGs
The Divinity series is universally respected and many say it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a personal story.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to find creative solutions in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a unorthodox way.
The Journey Continues
It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games in history. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
