Cars in German City Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Officers stated they were alerted by a man who noticed a car in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Around 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a statement.

Officers report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Police then located many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in association with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.

A senior representative stated the incident made him without words and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the death of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
